Genter plan is the best kind of plan

  • November 12th, 2013

Julie Ann Genter MP last night won over the LEANZ audience, Most turned up cautiously sceptical, expecting perhaps at best some nuggets amongst a lot of green faith.

Instead we got one of the best presentations I've seen. Genter won over the audience with a lively, fact filled, economically sophisticated argument for abolishing the power of local authorities to impose minimum or maximum parking space requirements on specific site uses. Her case could be summarised as proving why the best plan for private land parking may be no plan.

The conditions – among them that management of publicly owned parking be sophisticated and directed to maximising the value of the land concerned did not raise hackles.

If you get a chance, go along to hear the Green MP who is not there to tell people how they should get to work or use their land.

It did not hurt that she has mastered Prezi

Awesome! I’d feared that it would turn into a swap of parking minima for parking maxima.

Is her presentation online anywhere?

Scratch a Green and underneath you will find a socialist. A Green idea proposing less regulation will always have a socialist motive, in this case they don’t like cars, or petrol, they want to ban cars and fun, and revert to collective walking and cycle parties for fun and relaxation..
The original article praising deregulation of parking from Stephen Franks here

Car parking and Society
I took a drive around a little bit of Bangkok, to find Residential buildings with no car parks. Yes they are here, and they are slum territory within a few years of building. The filth and junk outside them is a big give away.
I know its easy to find what you expect, but I have observed this in big cities many times. No parks equals poorer areas, slum and decay. Tough, it’s the way it is.
The more car space the better the area is. Always.
Where I live at present in an 8 story high rise , there are fewer parking places than beds. Accommodation for a person without a car sells at a discount. In other words you pay for car park. This place is monitored day and night, you drive in here if you have a sticker, or alternatively a Mercedes or a bribe. Less parking places than cars, a Green dream come true.
Valuation of car parks
I value a garage in New Zealand at half the value of a bedroom. Garages do not necessarily mean cars. Look inside the average New Zealand or Australian car park, and what will you see ……. Tools, the clothes dryer, the kids bicycles, the barbeque place, more tools, concrete mix, paint, paint equipment, the tents and camping equipment, fishing rods, fire wood, fire coal, weapons in case the city council come, rubbish containers, tax records, junk.. Junk, where does the junk go for people who do not have garages, yes the street, it goes on the street, beside the collective of lost cars, slowly being wrecked by vandals .
My garage receives such reverence from my Thai wife, who before had never been inside a garage. She calls it ‘ home wood’. Not a garage it’s a home for wood, and other things. Women generally do not bother going into garages, which means you can do lots of things there that you would not otherwise be able to do.
Commercial valuation of car parks
A few years ago just as the land market was going to sky rocket and well before the earthquakes I put my commercial property down in Cashmere on the market. A real Estate agent rang me. He asked one question. “How many parks has it got”. Ten or so I said.. “ I will be down to see you in fifteen minutes” he replied, and like a fool I sold the place to him that day.. Car parking is everything.
I came to Bangkok. Before that a bloke rang me up, he said I will lease your home while you are away. I said OK. He said “can I park my cars there, that what I want it for”. Car parks are everything. My top criteria for purchase of a residential home would be 1. Area 2. Stand alone single story 3. Car parks or potential parks and garages.
Genter Green MP
She gained a BA in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley in May 2003.[2] She then moved to France and in July 2005, she obtained a post-graduate certificate in International Political Studies from Institut d’études politiques in Paris.[2] She obtained a Masters of Planning Practice from the University of Auckland in 2008.[3]She is recognised within the transportation industry as an expert on parking policy and the economic and transport effects thereof,[4] and has advised numerous councils in Australasia on this topic.

I couldn’t think of anything worse . A BA philosophy from California and a Planning Masters .. Genter is part of the freak Green party who sees every disater as specifically related to climate. Including the Austrailan forest fires. They disgracefully used the Phillipines disaster for raving climate speeches.
For obvious reasons the prodigy Stephen is now placed under surveillance 24 hours, this including all phone and email messages. I ask all his friends to do best here he has strayed into socialist territory and sometimes they never come back.

Clearance can be achieved following total renunciation of all socialist politicians and a schedule free of meeting where socialism is promulgated .

Genter like most Greens can probably tell you that the bushfires in Australia were a direct consequence of global climate and Abbot as carbon refusal Prime Minister. They disgracefully used the Philippines disaster to preach global climate truthism in Parliament For obvious reasons the prodigy Stephen is now placed under surveillance 24 hours, this including all phone and email messages. Paul you must never have been to london. Plenty of great sky scrapers that look great, are busy in the city and canary warf and have no our very little car parks.
