Beneficiary scams

  • December 23rd, 2009

What takes more than 10 second’s thought for a Minister for Bludgers facing Harris family type sickness benefit bludging?
Why should the Dept not test them using its own doctors. After all that is the solution Justice Minister Simon Power is applying when faced with an inability to trust lawyers on public money.
And why should there be hesitation about time limits for the dole. At least for the able bodied. Why would it take time to think about making them re-apply once a year. What about every week – with their evidence of having looked hard for work and having worked diligently at every job they got.

Otherwise they should get only food stamps and a voucher for a bed.

Mr Harris was tested by a Work and Income designated doctor and assessed as addicted to cannabis, thereby rendering him eligible. Surely the problem is the ethical obligation medical doctors feel towards patients and the pliability of case managers. Any doctor likely to take a tougher line is steering well clear.

Stephen, there are already systems in place for WINZ to make people look for work, and to provide evidence of doing so. It’s a pity that WINZ dont utilise these systems for this purpose.

I feel beneficiaries should have to apply every 6 months for a benefit. Staff can always waive the rules for genuine cases of hardship.

The Harris case is disgusting. It seems staff let them get away with it because they are menacing and frightening to interview. Why not ask for a police presence when they are coming in?

Stephen says:

Why indeed can not social legislation be changed today, or tomorrow, to rectify such obvious sickness that Stephen alludes to.
Well why? Why not?

Your Prime Minister dear Citizens is a smiling pink tie stay alive who cares about nothing else than self career personality, and lasting longer then Helengrand.
Groan.
$NZ dollar is 70 cents against $USA today,
80 cents aginst $AUD,
is this the time to leave with your family ?

Of course pink tie, he will get round to it, the benefit thing, but when?
when?

the term after that ?

If you are on a benefit other kiwis are paying your way.
Therefore you should be obligated to produce a weekly diary of what you have done for the 40hrs.
If you can’t show that you have looked for, applied or retrained for work then you shouldn’t be able to get the benefit.

as for getting a grant for swimming pool fencing on a 2nd house you own?
Duh!
Sounds like some people aren’t doing their job properly.
